Indications
- Treatment of hypertension
- Lowering blood pressure
- Reducing risk of cardiovascular events

Dosage & Administration
- Recommended adult dose of 80mg orally once daily
- Consider starting dose of 40mg for patients on high diuretic doses
- Additional blood pressure reduction with concomitant use of other antihypertensive agents
Interactions
- No interactions with amlodipine, antacids, chlorthalidone, digoxin, and more
- Potential attenuation by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
Contraindications
- Co-administration contraindicated with aliskiren in diabetes patients
Side Effects
- Common adverse reaction of diarrhea
- Other side effects include nausea, asthenia, fatigue, muscle spasm, dizziness, and cough
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category D
- Risk to fetus in second or third trimester
- Unknown excretion in human milk
- Consideration for discontinuation of nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Use during second and third trimesters reduces fetal renal function
- Potential symptomatic hypotension in volume-depleted patients
- Possibility of changes in renal function including renal failure in renal impaired patients
Use in Special Populations
- Neonatal reaction to in utero exposure
- No established safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients
- No dose adjustment for elderly patients
- Likelihood of abnormally high serum creatinine values in elderly patients
- No dose adjustment in mild-to-severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease patients
- Abnormally high serum creatinine values likely in moderate to severe renal impairment
- No dose adjustment for mild or moderate hepatic impairment
- Not studied in severe hepatic impairment

- Limited data related to overdose in humans
- Supportive therapy in case of overdose
