Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease in eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis as a peripherally acting analgesic
- Pharmacokinetic property is linear
- Highly protein bound and largely metabolized in the liver
- Excretion occurs in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme system and hence inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use up to 7 days
- Injection for moderately severe, acute pain
- Single or multiple doses, on a regular or as-needed schedule

Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect

- Methotrexate enhances toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic use before surgery
