Indications
- Treatment of hypertension as substitution therapy
Pharmacology
- Amlodipine as dihydropyridine calcium antagonist
- Bisoprolol Fumarate as beta1-selective adrenoceptor blocking agent
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once daily in patients with controlled blood pressure
Interactions
- Combinations not recommended include calcium antagonists and centrally-acting antihypertensive drugs
- Combinations to be used with caution include CYP3A4 inhibitors, simvastatin, and parasympathomimetic drugs
Contraindications
- Acute heart failure, obstruction of the outflow tract of the left ventricle, cardiogenic shock, and hypersensitivity to bisoprolol or amlodipine
Side Effects
- Common side effects include dizziness, headache, and gastrointestinal complaints
- Rare side effects include nightmares, hepatitis, and allergic reactions affecting the skin
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution is advised in patients with heart failure and impaired hepatic function
- Beta-blockers should be avoided in patients with obstructive airways diseases
Use in Special Populations
- Usual doses can be administered to elderly people with caution when dose is increased
- The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents below the age of 18 years have not been established
Overdose Effects
- Common signs expected with overdose of a beta-blocker include bradycardia and hypotension
- If overdose occurs, discontinuation of treatment and supportive and symptomatic treatment is recommended
