Indications

Pre- and post-operative cover (e.g., for cataract surgery)
Non-infected chronic conjunctivitis
Keratoconjunctivitis
Non-infected post-traumatic conditions of the cornea and conjunctiva

Pharmacology

Blocks the action of cyclo-oxygenase, involved in the production of prostaglandins causing pain, swelling, and inflammation

Dosage & Administration

Pre-operatively: Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac up to 5 times over the 3 hours preceding surgery
Post-operatively: Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac after 15, 30 & 45 minutes following surgery, then 3-5 times daily for as long as required
Inflammatory conditions: Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac 4-5 times daily depending upon the severity of the diseases

Interaction

No reported drug interaction. At least 5 minutes interval required when using another ophthalmic solution (e.g., steroid)

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the components. Contraindicated in patients with asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis following application of cyclo-oxygenase inhibitors

Side Effects

Mild to moderate burning sensation in 5-15% patients, transient in nature
Sensitivity to light
Bad taste
Feeling of pressure
Allergic reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

Safety not established. Use not recommended unless the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the child

Precautions & Warnings

May mask the signs of infection
Physicians should be alert to the development of infections
Periodic examinations of the eye recommended during prolonged use
Measurement of intraocular pressure recommended during prolonged use
Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment
