Indications

• Intravenous carbohydrate nutrient
• Fluid replacement
• Caloric feeding
• Nitrogen sparer

Dosage

• Dependent on patient requirements and physician judgment
• Maximum rate of infusion 0.5-1 gm/kg body weight per hour
• Usual flow rate for adults 30-75 drops per minute

Administration

• Check infusion set and solution
• Proper Eurocap handling
• Insertion and securing of administration set
• Site preparation and needle insertion
• Infusion start and speed adjustment

Contraindications

• Inborn errors of fructose metabolism
• Methyl alcohol poisoning
• Hyperuricemia
• Liver failure
• Lactic acidosis

• Lactic acidosis
• Hyperuricemia
• Facial flushing
• Abdominal pain
• Sweating

Precautions warnings

• Avoid in hereditary fructose intolerance
• Caution in impaired kidney function and severe liver damage
• Discontinue infusion if rigor arises
• Do not use cloudy or expired solution
