Healing of Erosive Esophagitis

Indicated for the healing of all grades of erosive esophagitis (EE) for up to 8 weeks

Maintenance of Healed Erosive Esophagitis

Indicated to maintain healing of EE and relief of heartburn for up to 6 months

Symptomatic Non-Erosive Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Indicated for the treatment of heartburn associated with symptomatic non-erosive Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) for 4 weeks

Pharmacology

Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) suppressing gastric acid secretion by specific inhibition of the (H+/K+)-ATPase in the gastric parietal cell

Dosage

  • 30 mg Once daily for maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis and relief of heartburn
  • 60 mg Once daily for healing of erosive esophagitis
  • One 30 mg tablet once daily for 6 months for maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis and relief of heartburn in adults
  • One 30 mg tablet once daily for 4 weeks for symptomatic non-erosive GERD

Administration

  • Can be taken without regard to food
  • Swallowed whole or granules can be sprinkled on one tablespoon and swallowed immediately
  • Granules should not be chewed
  • Missed capsules should be taken as soon as possible or only the prescribed dose at the appointed time if too close to the next dose

Interaction

  • With medicine: Atazanavir, Warfarin, Tacrolimus, Clopidogrel & Methotrexate

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation

  • No adequate and well-controlled studies with Dexlansoprazole in pregnant or lactating women

Precautions & Warnings

  • Precautions for Gastric Malignancy, Clostridium difficile Associated Diarrhea, Bone fracture, Hypomagnesemia, and concomitant use with Methotrexate

Use in Special Populations

  • Safety and effectiveness in patients below 12 years of age not established
  • No dose adjustment necessary for elderly patients
  • No dose adjustment necessary for patients with renal impairment
  • No dose adjustment necessary for patients with mild hepatic impairment. Consider maximum daily dose of 30 mg for patients with moderate hepatic impairment

Overdose Effects

No reports of significant overdose. No death or severe adverse events reported with high doses
