Indications

Pharmacology

Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation
Side Effects
- Frequent adverse events include headache, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, and dry mouth
- No significant difference in adverse events between short term and maintenance treatment
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- No teratogenic effects observed in animal studies
- Excretion of esomeprazole in milk not studied
- Discontinuation of breastfeeding if essential
Precautions & Warnings
- Symptomatic response does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy
- Administering capsules to patients who have difficulty swallowing
- Use of antacids while taking esomeprazole
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients not established
- No overall differences in safety and efficacy observed in elderly patients
- No dosage adjustment recommended for patients with mild to moderate hepatic insufficiency
- Pharmacokinetics not expected to be altered in patients with renal impairment

- Acute toxicity observed in animal studies
- No reports of overdose with iMAX
