Description

Lonapam 1mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, and as an adjunct in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (petit mal variant) and other seizures.

Dosage

  • Oral:
    • Adults:
      • Initial dose for seizure disorders should not exceed 1.5mg/day
      • Initial dose for panic disorder is 0.25mg given in two divided doses
    • Pediatric Patients: Initial dose for infants and children should be between 0.01 and 0.03mg/kg/day
  • Injection:
    • Infants and children: Half of a vial (0.5mg)
    • Adults: 1 vial (1mg) by slow IV injection or by IV infusion

Interaction

Lonapam does not alter the pharmacokinetics of certain drugs, but its effect on the metabolism of other drugs has not been investigated.

  • Renal Impairment: No dose adjustment is required
  • Hepatic Impairment: Plasma protein binding is significantly different in cirrhotic patients

Overdose effects

  • Symptoms:
    • Drowsiness
    • Ataxia
    • Coma
    • Hypotension
    • Respiratory depression
    • Increased frequency of seizures
  • Treatment: Monitor vital signs and institute supportive measures, consider the use of flumazenil if severe CNS depression

Reconstitution

  • Slow intravenous injection: The contents of the vial must be diluted with 1 ml of water for injection prior to administration

  • Intramuscular injection: To be used only in exceptional cases or if IV administration is not feasible
