Dosage
- Different doses for adults and pediatric patients for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
- Specific doses for radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
- Specific doses for postoperative nausea and vomiting
Administration
- Oral soluble film to be placed on top of the tongue and dissolved within 20 seconds
- Does not require water to aid dissolution or swallowing
Interaction
Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Frequent adverse events include headache, constipation, and diarrhea
- Rash reported in approximately 1% of patients
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, tachycardia, angina, and hypokalemia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of carcinogenic effects in animal studies
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus in animal studies
- Caution advised for nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients with hypersensitivity to other selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Not a drug that stimulates gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment not needed for patients with impaired renal function
- Recommended single maximal daily dose for severe hepatic impairment
- Limited information on dosage for pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
