Indications
- Treatment of infections in throat, sinus, tonsils, and larynx
- Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Inhibits biosynthesis of cell wall
- Stable in the presence of gastric acid
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250 mg three times daily, increasing for severe infections
- Children dosage: 125 mg three times daily, increasing for severe infections
- Specific dosage recommendations for purulent respiratory infection, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhoea
- Adjust dosage in renal impairment
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be added to milk, fruit juice, or water and taken immediately
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels of the medication
- May affect gut flora and lower estrogen reabsorption, reducing efficacy of combined oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects including diarrhoea, indigestion, and rash
- Rare reports of Pseudo-membranous colitis
