Indications

  • Treatment of hypertension
  • May be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents

Pharmacology

  • Blocks vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin II
  • Stimulation of aldosterone synthesis and release
  • Renal reabsorption of sodium

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual starting dose of 20 mg once daily
  • Dosage individualized
  • Can be increased to 40 mg if needed
  • No initial dosage adjustment for elderly or patients with renal impairment

Interaction

  • No significant drug interactions reported with digoxin or warfarin
  • Bioavailability not altered by antacids
  • Not metabolized by cytochrome P450 system

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
