Description
- Acid-stable
- Semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
- Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
- Maintains urine concentration for prolonged duration
Pharmacology
- Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Binds to penicillin-binding proteins
- Inhibits transpeptidation step
- Arrests cell wall assembly
- Causes bacterial cell death
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 1-2 g per day in one or two divided doses
- Child dosage: 30 mg/kg daily in divided doses every 12 hours
- May be taken with or without meals
Interaction
- No significant drug interaction with other drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil
- Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients

- Well tolerated in general
- Commonly reported side effects: gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity phenomena
Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA pregnancy category: B
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Excreted in human milk
- Caution during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause pseudomembranous colitis
- Caution during diagnosis in patients with diarrhea
