Indications

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections
  • Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
  • Susceptible microorganisms (gram-positive)
  • Susceptible microorganisms (gram-negative)

Pharmacology

  • Broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic
  • Active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Inhibition of cross-linking process in cell wall of bacteria
  • Formation of cell wall pores leading to bacterial cell lysis

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dosage for adults with urinary tract infections
  • Recommended dosage for adults with respiratory tract infections
  • Recommended dosage for adults with skin and soft tissue infections
  • Total daily dose for children with otitis media
  • Maximum daily dosage for children

Interaction

  • Increased risk of kidney damage with nephrotoxic drugs
  • Enhanced renal toxicity with diuretics and probenecid

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
