Vesotan 8 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Hypertension
• Heart failure with impaired left ventricular systolic function

Pharmacology

• Candesartan Cilexetil is an ester prodrug
• Hydrolyses in the body to the active form Candesartan during absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
• Angiotensin II receptor (type AT1) antagonist

Dosage & Administration

• Initial dose for hypertension: 8 mg (hepatic impairment 2 mg, renal impairment or intravascular volume depletion 4 mg) once daily
• Increased dosage intervals for max 32 mg once daily
• Usual maintenance dose 8 mg once daily
• Initial dose for heart failure: 4 mg once daily
• Increased dosage intervals to target dose of 32 mg once daily or to max tolerated dose

Interaction

• No significant drug interactions reported in studies
• No effect on P-450 enzymes
• Interactions with drugs that inhibit or are metabolized by those enzymes not expected

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
• Pregnancy
• Breastfeeding
• Cholestasis

• Symptomatic hypotension including dizziness
• Hyperkalemia
• Angioedema
• Vertigo
• Headache
• Hepatitis
• Blood disorders
• Hyponatremia
• Back pain
• Arthralgia
• Myalgia
• Rash
• Urticaria
• Pruritus

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Discontinue if pregnancy is detected
• Safe to use in lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in renal artery stenosis
• Use with caution in aortic or mitral valve stenosis
• Use with caution in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
• Monitoring of plasma-potassium concentration advised
• Lower initial doses may be appropriate in the elderly and in patients with renal impairment

Use in Special Populations

• Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
