Indications
- Treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail due to dermatophytes
- Tinea Capitis
- Fungal infection of the skin caused by various fungi
- Treatment of tinea infections of the skin
- Treatment of pityriasis (tinea) versicolor
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of biosynthesis of Ergosterol
- Fungal cell death via increased membrane permeability
- Active against Tricophyton Mentagrophyte and Trichophyton Rubrum
Dosage & Administration
- Specific dosage for different types of onychomycosis
- Duration of treatment for different types of infections
- Instructions for cleansing and applying the cream/spray
- Relief of clinical symptoms usually occurs within a few days
Interaction
- Inhibitor of the CYP450 2D6 isozyme
- Drugs metabolized by CYP450 2D6 require careful monitoring when co-administered
Contraindications
- Contra-indicated in individuals hypersensitive to terbinafine

Precautions & Warnings
- Rare cases of liver failure reported
- Discontinue treatment if there is biochemical or clinical evidence of liver injury
- Serious skin reactions may occur
- Derfin cream is for external use only
- Not recommended for patients with chronic or active liver disease
- Pretreatment serum transaminase tests are advised for all patients before taking terbinafine tablets
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
- No evidence to suggest elderly patients require different dosages or experience different side effects
Overdose Effects
- Limited clinical experience with overdose
- Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, rash, frequent urination, headache
