Indications

  • Relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis
  • Relief of signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis
  • Relief of signs and symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis
  • Decrease risk of developing gastric ulcers in at-risk patients

Pharmacology

  • Consists of immediate-release esomeprazole magnesium layer and enteric-coated naproxen core
  • Naproxen inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
  • Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor

Dosage

  • Use lowest effective dose for the shortest duration
  • Adult dosage: 375mg naproxen/20mg esomeprazole or 500mg naproxen/20mg esomeprazole twice daily
  • Juvenile dosage varies based on weight

Administration

  • Take tablet at least 30 minutes before meals

Interaction

  • NSAIDs may reduce antihypertensive effect of certain medications
  • Concomitant use with warfarin may increase bleeding risk
  • May interfere with absorption of certain drugs

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any component
  • History of allergic-type reactions to NSAIDs
  • Contraindicated in peri-operative period of CABG surgery

Side Effects

  • Tablet decreases incidence of gastrointestinal side effects
