Pharmacology
- Bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Active against gram-positive bacteria
- Neomycin binds to bacterial ribosome
- Inhibits protein synthesis
- Active against gram negative aerobes
Dosage & Administration
- Ointment for affected skin area
- Dusting Powder for superficial skin infections
- Clean affected area before application
- Apply 2-3 times daily for the ointment
- Apply up to 4 times daily for Dusting Powder
Interaction
- Bacitracin Zinc may increase nephrotoxicity risk
- May enhance neuromuscular-blocking agents action
- Neomycin Sulphate has additive nephrotoxic and neurotoxic effects with other aminoglycosides
- May impair the absorption of other drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any components

- Well tolerated, rare allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not established safe use during pregnancy and lactation
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid use on large open wounds and severely injured skin
- Do not use if eardrum is perforated
- Consult a physician for deep or puncture wounds, animal bites, or serious burns
- Discontinue and consult a physician if condition persists or worsens
- Not for use longer than 1 week without physician's direction
Use in Special Populations
- Suitable for use in children at adult dose, reduce dose in infants
- Not recommended for use in neonates
