Description
- Rosvin is indicated for reducing elevated total-C, LDL-C, ApoB, non HDL-C and TG levels, increasing HDL-C
- Selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- Usual dose range: 5-20 mg/day
- Drug interactions with Cyclosporine, Gemfibrosil, Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir, Coumarin anticoagulants, concomitant lipid-lowering therapies
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity, liver disease, pregnancy, and lactation
- Most frequent adverse events: headache, myalgia, constipation, asthenia, abdominal pain, and nausea
- Should be prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
- Storage conditions: Keep below 30°C temperature, protected from light & moisture
Dosage and Administration
- Dose range: 5-20 mg/day
- Maximum recommended dose: 20 mg/day
- Start of therapy with 5 mg once daily considered for Asian patients
- Limit dose to 5 mg once daily with Cyclosporine, 10 mg once daily with Lopinavir/Ritonavir or Atazanavir/Ritonavir
- Avoid combination therapy with Gemfibrozil
- Start dosing at 5 mg once daily for severe renal impairment
Pharmacology
- Selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase
- Increases hepatic LDL receptors and inhibits hepatic synthesis of VLDL and LDL
Interaction
- Increases exposure with Cyclosporine, should be limited to 5 mg once daily
- Avoid combination with Gemfibrosil, if used, limit to 10 mg once daily
- Increases exposure with Lopinavir/Ritonavir or atazanavir/ritonavir, should be limited to 10 mg once daily
- Prolongs INR with coumarin anticoagulants, stable INR should be achieved prior to starting
- Use with fibrates and niacin products may increase the risk of skeletal muscle effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to product components
- Liver disease, including unexplained persistent elevations in hepatic transaminase levels
- Pregnant women and women who may become pregnant
- Nursing mothers

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Administered to women of childbearing age only when unlikely to conceive
- Discontinue therapy if pregnancy occurs
- Not known whether excreted in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Prescribed with caution in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy
- Discontinue if markedly elevated creatinine kinase levels occur or myopathy is diagnosed or suspected
- Temporarily withheld in patients with acute, serious conditions suggestive of myopathy
