Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 75-150 mg daily in 2 to 3 divided doses
  • Dose reduction in long term use
  • Children: 1-3 mg of diclofenac/kg body wt. daily in divided doses
  • Elderly patients: Lowest effective dosage recommended
  • Maximum daily dose of 150 mg
  • Recommended daily dosage of 2-3 tablets
  • Maximum daily dose of 150 mg for Diclofenac DT
  • One capsule daily for Diclofenac TR
  • 50 mg suppository 2-3 times daily for adults
  • Maximum daily dose of 150 mg for suppository
  • 2-4 g of Diclofenac gel should be applied to the skin 3-4 times daily

Interaction

  • Increased plasma concentrations of lithium and digoxin
  • Isolated reports of increased risk of haemorrhage with the combined use of diclofenac and anticoagulant therapy
  • No influence on anticoagulant effect of oral antidiabetic agents when given together with diclofenac
  • Cases of nephrotoxicity in patients receiving cyclosporin and diclofenac concomitantly
  • Serious toxicity reported when methotrexate and NSAIDs are given within 24 hours of each other
  • Caution required when considering concomitant therapy of NSAID and quinolones
  • Increased frequency of unwanted effects with co-administration of diclofenac with other systemic NSAIDs and steroids

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the products
  • Peptic ulcer
  • Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac or other non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents
  • Contra-indicated in asthmatic patient precipitated by acetylsalicylic acid or other drugs with prostaglandin synthetase inhibitor
  • Not to be used under occlusive airtight dressings

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Use only for compelling reasons during pregnancy
  • Lowest effective dose to be used during pregnancy
  • Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
  • Not recommended during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Close observation in rare instances of peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Keep out of contact with eyes or mucus membranes
  • Hands should be washed properly after application
  • Not to be taken by mouth
