Description
- Treatment for essential hypertension in adults
- Reduction of cardiovascular morbidity in adults with atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes mellitus with target organ damage
- Non-peptide angiotensin-ll receptor antagonist
- Individualized dosage
- Usual starting dose of 40 mg once a day
- Dose-related blood pressure response in the range of 20 to 80 mg
- Pediatric use not established
- Geriatric use similarities
- Hepatic impairment monitoring and slow titration
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity
- Increased risk of renal impairment with NSAIDs
- Avoid co-administration with aliskiren in diabetic patients
- Side effects in hypertensive patients include sinus pain, back pain, diarrhea
- Side effects in cardiovascular risk reduction patients include intermittent claudication, skin ulcer
- Pregnancy Category C and D
- Potential adverse effects on nursing infants
- Avoid fetal or neonatal exposure
- Hypotension precautions
- Avoid concomitant use of ACE inhibitor and angiotensin receptor blocker
- Overdose effects may include hypotension, dizziness, tachycardia, bradycardia, increase in serum creatinine, acute renal failure
- Storage conditions: do not store above 30°C, protect from light and humidity, keep out of reach of children
