Description

  • Indications:
    • Reduces blood sugar levels
    • Used in type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight loss are inadequate
  • Pharmacology:
    • Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
    • Decreases hepatic glucose output
  • Dosage & Administration:
    • Usual initial dose 40 to 80 mg daily
    • Can be increased up to 320 mg daily in divided doses
    • Film-coated and modified release tablet options
  • Interactions:
    • May interact with other oral antidiabetics, antibiotics, antifungals, antidepressants, painkillers, alcohol, etc.
