Pharmacology

Side Effects

  • Neuroendocrinological phenomena such as galactorrhoea and gynaecomastia
  • Rare allergic reactions such as rash and urticaria

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Should only be used during the first trimester if justified by therapeutic benefit
  • Excreted in breast milk
  • Effects on ability to drive and use machines

Precautions & Warnings

  • Absolute caution in the case of children
  • Increased risk of extra-pyramidal reactions in young children
  • Use with caution in hepatic impairment

Pediatric Uses

  • Caution in infants due to immature blood-brain barrier
  • Caution in liver disorders
  • Use with caution in severe renal insufficiency

Overdose Effects

  • Symptoms include drowsiness, disorientation, and extrapyramidal reactions
  • Activated charcoal administration recommended
