Pharmacology
Broad spectrum bactericidal activity against a wide range of gram-positive & gram-negative bacteria and some protozoa

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim or sulphonamides
- Megaloblastic anaemia due to folate deficiency
- Liver parenchymal damage
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency

Pregnancy & Lactation
Sulphonamides pass the placenta and are excreted in the breast milk, may cause kernicterus

Prolonged full dose treatment associated with the risk of macrocytic anaemia, care with diabetic patients receiving sulphonylurea drug
