Dosage & Administration
- 2 mg thrice daily for anxiety
- 15-30 mg daily for anxiety (divided doses)
- 5-15 mg at bedtime for insomnia associated with anxiety
- 1-5 mg at bedtime for night terrors and somnambulism in child
- 10 mg for severe acute anxiety (repeated if necessary)
- 250 mcg/kg for febrile convulsion in children
- 500 mcg/kg in case of children (maximum 10 mg) for rectal administration
Interaction
- Contraindication with alcohol
- increased sedation with neuroleptics, hypnotics, sedative antihistamines and CNS depressants
- increased clearance by phonobarbitone
- decreased clearance by cimetidine
- inhibition of metabolism by omeprazole and isoniazide
