Indications
- Treatment of superficial infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms
- Treatment of burns, wounds, ulcers, otitis externa, neuro-dermatitis and eczema
- Adjunct to systemic steroid therapy in certain pyoderma cases
Pharmacology
- Active topical corticosteroid (Betamethasone)
- Rapid response in inflammatory dermatoses
- Effective in curing psoriasis and skin diseases
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal amino-glycoside (Neomycin Sulfate)
- Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens
- Effective in hairy and intertriginous places
- Treatment of wet ulceration of the skin
Dosage & Administration
- Apply as a thin layer 3-4 times daily for adults
- Slow withdrawal by decreasing frequency in chronic conditions
- Do not use on children under 1 year of age
- Course of treatment for children not lasting more than 5 days
- Physician's direction for usage
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
- Contraindicated for the treatment of otitis externa with perforated eardrum
- Contraindicated in skin lesions caused by viral and fungal infection
Side Effects
- Well tolerated, but prolonged and high doses may cause Cushing's syndrome, acne, thinning, and dilatation of blood vessels
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Should not be extensively used in pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid long-term continuous topical therapy to prevent resistant microorganisms
- Use accurate dose in infected areas only
