Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of osteomyelitis
- Treatment of endocarditis
- Prophylactic agent for major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Inhibition of cell wall formation in bacteria
- Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase
- Bactericidal antibiotic
Dosage
- Adult oral dosage: 250 mg four times daily
- Severe infection adult dosage: may be doubled
- Children (2-10 years) dosage: 1/2 of adult dose
- Children (Under 2 years) dosage: 1/4 of adult dose
- Intramuscular injection for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Intravenous injection for adults: 250 mg-1 g four times daily
Administration
- Oral administration: 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may result in increased level of Flunid in blood
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Pregnancy & Lactation
- US FDA Pregnancy Category: B
- Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed

- Caution should be exercised when administered to a lactating mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in allergic diathesis
Use in Special Populations
- Reduce dose in severe renal failure
Therapeutic Class
- Penicillinase-resistant penicillins
Reconstitution
- Can be administered in other routes in conjunction with systemic therapy
- Dissolved in 0.5% solution of lignocaine hydrochloride for intraarticular injection
- Inhaled by nebuliser four times daily
