Composition
- Type of tablet: Regular, DX, effervescent
- Contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg or 1500 mg (Coral source)
- Equivalent to 500 mg or 600 mg of elemental Calcium
- Contains Vitamin D USP 200 IU or 400 IU

Dosage & Administration
- Dose: one tablet once or twice daily
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water and drink orally
Interaction
- Interaction with thiazide diuretics affecting urinary excretion of calcium
- Interaction with systemic corticosteroids reducing calcium absorption
- Interaction with ion exchange resins and laxatives affecting gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- Interference with tetracycline preparations absorption
- Hypercalcaemia risk with concomitant use of cardiac glycosides
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Contraindicated in Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Contraindicated in Hypersensitivity to the components
- Contraindicated in Severe renal insufficiencies
- Contraindicated in Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Maximum daily intake during pregnancy: 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol (15 mcg vitamin D)
- Avoid overdoses as it may be related to adverse effects on the developing fetus
- No indications of teratogenicity in humans
- Use during breast-feeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Long-term treatment requires monitoring of serum calcium levels and renal function
- Monitoring is important in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics, and in patients with a high tendency to calculus formation
- Caution in patients with impairment of renal function
- Caution in patients suffering from sarcoidosis
- Caution in immobilised patients with osteoporosis
- Caution in prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
Overdose Effects
- Can lead to hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
- Symptoms include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias, coma, and death
- Treatment involves discontinuation of calcium, thiazide diuretics, lithium, vitamin A, and cardiac glycosides, rehydration, and monitoring serum electrolytes and renal function
