Composition
- Each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Each DX tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Each effervescent tablet contains Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology
- Adequate Calcium in the blood is vital for bodily functions
- Clinical evidence suggests usefulness for prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis and associated fractures
- Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption and bone formation
- Calcium sourced from coral origin for better absorption
- Vitamin D3 aids in absorption of Calcium from GI tract
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by physician
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
- Taking in full stomach ensures better absorption
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Simultaneous treatment with ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of tetracycline preparations
- Hypercalcaemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D
- Concurrent use of bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride may require timed administration
- Oxalic acid and phytic acid may inhibit calcium absorption
- Avoid taking calcium products within two hours of eating foods high in oxalic acid and phytic acid
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Concomitant digoxin therapy

- Rarely produces hypercalcemia

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake limit during pregnancy
- Avoid overdoses as it may relate to adverse effects on developing fetus
- No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
- Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor serum calcium levels during long-term treatment
- Renal function should be monitored through measurement of serum creatinine
- Monitoring is important in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
- Use caution in patients with impairment of renal function
- Consider risk of soft tissue calcification
- Use caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis
- Consider dose when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
- Additional doses of calcium or vitamin D should be taken under close medical supervision
Overdose Effects
- Hypervitaminosis D
- Hypercalcemia symptoms include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias
