Indications

Pharmacology
- Third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic

- Approximately 40-50% absorption
Dosage & Administration
- Usual course of treatment is 7 days
- May be continued for up to 14 days if required
- Recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily
- Recommended dosage for children is 8 mg/kg/day
- Special dosing for typhoid treatment
- Caution and dose adjustment in elderly and patients with renal impairment
Interaction
- Potential increase in prothrombin times in some patients

Contraindications

- Gastric lavage may be indicated in case of overdose
