Acuren 50 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Edema associated with congestive heart failure
• Hepatic cirrhosis
• Premenstrual tension
• Oedema due to renal dysfunction
• Hypertension

Pharmacology

• Promote water loss from the body
• Inhibit Na+/Cl- reabsorption from the distal convoluted tubules in the kidneys
• Cause loss of potassium and increase in serum uric acid
• Shown to prevent hypertension-related morbidity and mortality

Dosage & Administration

• Initial dose for edema: 25 to 50 mg daily
• Maximum dose for edema: 100 mg daily
• Initial dose for hypertension: 25 mg daily
• Dosage for elderly and children
• Dosing adjustments for different patient groups

Interactions

• Potentiate orthostatic hypotension with alcohol, barbiturates, or narcotics
• Adjustment of dosage with oral and parenteral antidiabetic drugs
• Additive effect with other antihypertensive drugs
• Impaired absorption with cholestyramine and colestipol resin
• Possible interactions with other medications and laboratory tests

Contraindications

• Anuria
• Hypersensitivity to Hydrochlorothiazide or sulphonamide-derived drugs
• Severe renal or hepatic failure
• Addison’s disease
• Concurrent lithium therapy
