Indications
- Treatment of ocular infections involving the conjunctiva and/or cornea caused by Supraphen-susceptible organisms
Pharmacology
- Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic which inhibits bacterial protein synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 or 2 drops in the conjunctival sac 4-6 times per day for the first 72 hours
- Continue treatment for approximately 7 days
Interaction
- Chymotrypsin inhibition if given simultaneously with Supraphen
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to Chloramphenicol or any ingredients
Side Effects
- Burning
- Stinging
- Conjunctival hyperemia
- Blood dyscrasia
- Allergic or inflammatory reactions
- Vesicular and maculopapular dermatitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety in pregnancy and lactation has not been established
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid repeated course and prolonged treatment
- Avoid prolonged ophthalmic use due to potential blood dyscrasias
Overdose Effects
- Accidental ingestion unlikely to cause toxicity due to low antibiotic content
