Description
- Lox is indicated for the treatment of single infection or mixed infections caused by two or more susceptible organisms. It can also be used for infections caused by organisms resistant to other antibiotics.

- Treatment of gastrointestinal infections
- Treatment of biliary tract and intra abdominal infections
- Treatment of bone and joint infections
- Treatment of pelvic infections
- Treatment of eye, ear, nose and throat infections
Pharmacology
- Synthetic quinolone anti-infective agent
- Broad spectrum of activity against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic bacteria
- Bactericidal action from interference with DNA gyrase
Dosage
- Dosage range for adults: 100-750 mg twice daily
- Dosage range for urinary tract infections: 250-500 mg twice daily
- Dosage range for respiratory tract infections: 250-500mg twice daily
- Dosage range for gonorrhea: single dose of 250 or 500 mg
Administration
- Instructions for use of Ciprofloxacin IV infusion
- Check for minute leaks before administration
- Do not use if solution is cloudy or precipitate is present
- Adjust flow control clamp for proper administration
Interaction
- Avoid concurrent administration with magnesium or aluminum containing antacids
- Avoid concurrent administration with products containing calcium, iron or zinc
- Do not take concurrently with milk or other dairy products
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones

- Gastrointestinal disturbances
- Central nervous system disturbances
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Joint pain
- Photosensitivity
- Transient increase in liver enzymes
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy and nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders
- May be taken with or without meals
- Avoid concurrent administration with certain antacids and dairy products
Use in Special Populations
- Not a first choice in pediatric population
Overdose Effects
- May lead to seizures, hallucinations, renal and hepatic impairment
