Pharmacology
Powerful psychotropic agent selectively reduces tension and anxiety, sedative and muscle-relaxant properties, binds to GABA-A receptor
Dosage
- Standard dosage 1.5-3 mg up to three times daily
- Severe cases/hospital treatment: 6-12 mg 2 or 3 times daily
- Elderly and debilitated patients require lower doses
- Children: dose adjusted to body weight
Administration
Oral administration in tablet form
Interaction
- Enhanced sedative effects when combined with other centrally active drugs
- Prolonged elimination half-life with cimetidine co-administration
- Avoid concomitant intake with alcohol
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to bromazepam
- Severe respiratory insufficiency
- Severe hepatic insufficiency
- Sleep apnea syndrome

Pregnancy & Lactation

- Greater dependence in predisposed patients with history of alcohol
- Withdrawal symptoms upon termination of treatment
- Not recommended for primary treatment of sleeplessness caused by psychotic illness
- Caution while driving or using machineries
