Indications

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
- Stable in gastric acid
- Rapid oral absorption
- Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250 mg-500 mg three times daily
- Children dosage: 125 mg-250 mg three times daily
- Specific dosage for respiratory infections, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension can be administered by adding to milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
- Increased and prolonged blood levels with concurrent use of Probenecid
- Impact on gut flora and estrogen reabsorption, affecting combined oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects including diarrhea, indigestion, occasional rash
- Rare reporting of pseudo-membranous colitis
