Pharmacology

Semisynthetic third generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic with broad spectrum bactericidal activity

Dosage & Administration

Total Daily Dose: 600 mg
Dosage Schedule:
- Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Bronchitis: 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily for 5 to 10 days
- Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily
- Acute Bacterial Otitis Media: 7mg/kg two times or 14 mg/kg once daily for 5 to 10 days
- Acute Maxillary Sinusitis: 300 mg two times daily or 600 mg once daily for 10 days
- Community Acquired Pneumonia: 300 mg two times daily for 10 days
- Uncomplicated Skin and Skin Structure Infections: 7mg/kg two times daily for 10 days
Powder for Oral Suspension: Total daily dose for all infections is 14 mg/kg body weight up to a maximum dose of 600 mg per day
Direction for Reconstitution: Shake well before use, reconstituted suspension should be used within 10 days if kept at room temperature or within 14 days if kept in a refrigerator

Interaction

Antacids: should be taken at least 2 hours interval of antacid administration
Iron supplement: should be taken at least 2 hours interval of iron supplement administration
Probencid: inhibits the renal excretion of Adinir

Contraindications

Cefdinir is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics

Usage During Pregnancy: Only if clearly needed
Breastfeeding: Cefdinir was not detected in the breast milk after administration of single 600 mg doses

Precautions & Warnings

Prescribed with caution in individuals with a history of colitis
In patients with transient or persistent renal insufficiency, the total daily dose should be reduced

Storage Conditions

Store at room temperature and protect from light, after reconstitution the suspension can be used within 7 days if kept at room temperature and within 14 days if kept in a refrigerator, always keep the bottle tightly closed
