Indications
- Treatment of essential hypertension
- Treatment of hypertension in patients with renal function impairment
- Treatment of salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure
Pharmacology
- Diuretic antihypertensive
- Vasodilation effect
- Inhibition of ion passage across membranes
- Reduction in vascular hyperreactivity
- Decrease in total peripheral and arteriolar resistance
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet daily in the morning
- Combination with other categories of anti-hypertensive agents in severe cases
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
Interaction
- Potentiation of other antihypertensive drugs
- Decrease in arterial responsiveness to norepinephrine
- Reduced renal clearance and risk of toxicity when used with lithium
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides
- Severe renal failure
- Hepatic encephalopathy or severe hepatic failure
- Hypokalaemia
