Description
Frusin is indicated for fluid retention associated with chronic congestive cardiac failure, acute congestive cardiac failure, chronic renal failure, maintenance of fluid excretion in acute renal failure, nephrotic syndrome, liver disease, hypertension, hypertensive crisis, and support of forced diuresis. It is a monosulphonyl diuretic with a distinctive action on renal tubular function. Its pharmacological action includes inhibition of sodium and chloride transport in the ascending limb of the loop of Henle. Furosemide is available in tablet, syrup, and injection forms.

Pregnancy & Lactation Caution
Cautiously used in cardiogenic shock complicated by pulmonary edema and in the first trimester of pregnancy. Monitoring of blood pressure and pulse during rapid diuresis is required. May inhibit lactation or pass into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased risk of developing acute retention in patients with prostatic hypertrophy or impairment of micturition
- Monitoring of blood pressure when using ACE inhibitors concomitantly
- Increased toxic effects of nephrotoxic antibiotics
Overdose Effects
- Dependent on the extent and consequences of electrolyte and fluid loss
- Management with measures such as gastric lavage and activated charcoal
