Indications

Description

  • Acid-stable and semi-synthetic oral cephalosporin
  • Rapidly absorbed after oral administration
  • Maintains urine concentration of antibiotic well above MIC of susceptible pathogens

Pharmacology

  • Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
  • Binds to penicillin-binding proteins
  • Inhibits transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis
  • Arrests cell wall assembly resulting in bacterial cell death

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dosage for various infections
  • Children dosage in divided doses every 12 hours
  • May be taken with or without meals
  • Administration with food may help diminish gastrointestinal complaints

  • No significant drug interactions

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil
