Indications

Interaction
- Marked fall in blood pressure when ACE inhibitors are added
- Increased serum lithium levels when given concomitantly
- Increased toxic effects of nephrotoxic antibiotics
Contraindications
- Anuria
- Electrolyte deficiency
- Pre-comatose states associated with liver cirrhosis
- Hypersensitivity to furosemide or sulphonamides
Side Effects
- Disturbance in electrolytes and water balance
- Potential for alkalosis
- Possibility of uric acid retention
- Risk for provoking hyperglycemia and glycosuria
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy category C
- Caution in cardiogenic shock and the first trimester of pregnancy
- Monitoring of blood pressure and pulse during rapid diuresis
- Potential inhibition of lactation or passage into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased risk of acute retention in patients with prostatic hypertrophy or impairment of micturition
- Special caution when ACE inhibitors are added to Frusin therapy
