Indications

Pharmacology

  • Proton pump inhibitor
  • Suppresses gastric acid secretion
  • Inhibition of H+/K+-ATPase
  • Peak plasma levels occur at approximately 1.5 hours
  • Enteric-coated pellet formulation
  • Extensively metabolized in the liver
  • Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme system

Dosage

  • Oral and IV dosage forms
  • Dosage for healing erosive esophagitis, symptomatic GERD, Helicobacter pylori eradication
  • Dosage adjustment for pediatric patients
  • Dosage duration for risk reduction of rebleeding of Gastric or Duodenal Ulcers in adults

Administration

  • Tablet or capsule should be swallowed whole and taken one hour before a meal
  • Preparation of oral suspension

Interaction

  • Metabolized in the liver by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
  • No clinically relevant interactions with certain drugs
  • Potential interference with CYP2C19
