Indications
- Treatment of hypertension as substitution therapy
Pharmacology
- Contains Amlodipine and Bisoprolol Fumarate
- Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx
- Bisoprolol is a beta1-selective adrenoceptor blocking agent
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once daily for patients with controlled blood pressure
Interaction
- Combinations not recommended: Calcium antagonists, centrally-acting antihypertensive drugs
- Combinations to be used with caution: Strong or moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors, simvastatin, Tacrolimus, etc.
- Combinations to be considered: Mefloquine, Rifampicin, MAO inhibitors
Contraindications
- Acute heart failure, obstruction of the outflow tract of the left ventricle, cardiogenic shock, second or third degree AV block, severe bronchial asthma, untreated phaeochromocytoma
Side Effects
- Common: Dizziness, headache, palpitations, nausea, edema, fatigue
- Uncommon: Insomnia, depression, visual disturbances, bronchospasm, alopecia
- Rare: Allergic reactions, nightmares, hepatitis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended
Precautions & Warnings
- Patients with heart failure should be treated with caution
- Caution in patients with obstructive airways diseases
- Caution in patients with impaired hepatic function
Use in Special Populations
- Geriatric use: Caution advised when dose is increased
- Pediatric use: Safety and efficacy not established in children and adolescents
- Patients with Liver disease: Administer with special caution
- Patients with Kidney disease: Amlodipine should be administered with particular caution
Overdose Effects
- Most common signs of beta-blocker overdose: bradycardia, hypotension, bronchospasm, hypoglycemia
- Overdose of amlodipine could result in excessive peripheral vasodilation and prolonged systemic hypotension
