Pharmacology

Furosemide is a monosulphonyl diuretic that affects renal tubular function and electrolyte reabsorption.

Interaction

  • ACE Inhibitors may cause a marked fall in blood pressure
  • Concomitant use with lithium or nephrotoxic antibiotics may increase toxicity

Contraindications

  • Anuria
  • Electrolyte Deficiency
  • Pre-comatose states associated with liver cirrhosis
  • Hypersensitivity to furosemide or sulphonamides
