Description
Lotenol is indicated for the treatment of steroid responsive inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea and anterior segment of the globe such as allergic conjunctivitis, acne rosacea, superficial punctate keratitis, herpes zoster keratitis, iritis, cyclitis, uveitis. It is also effective in post-operative inflammation and pain following ocular surgery.
Dosage instructions
- Instill 1 drop of Lotenol Ophthalmic Suspension into the conjunctival sac of the eye(s) four times a day for steroid responsive ocular inflammation.
- Instill 1 drop of Lotenol Ophthalmic Suspension into the conjunctival sac of the operated eye(s) four times a day beginning 24 hours after surgery and continuing throughout the first two weeks after surgery for inflammation after surgery.
Pharmacology
Corticosteroids inhibit the inflammatory response, edema, fibrin deposition, capillary dilation, leukocyte migration, capillary proliferation, and scar formation associated with inflammation. The mechanism of action of ocular corticosteroids involves the induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, collectively called lipocortins.
Interaction
Lotenol is not detected in plasma following topical administration and is not expected to affect the pharmacokinetics of systemically administered medicinal products.
Contraindications
Lotenol is contraindicated in most viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva, mycobacterial infection of the eye, fungal diseases of ocular structures, and individuals with known or suspected hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of this preparation and to other corticosteroids.

Pregnancy and lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Lotenol should not be used in pregnancy unless clearly necessary. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
Precautions and warnings
If signs and symptoms fail to improve after two days, the patient should be re-evaluated. If Lotenol is used for 10 days or longer, intraocular pressure should be monitored.

Storage conditions
Store at below 30 degree C in a dry place protected from light. Do not touch the tube tip to any surface. It is desirable that the contents should not be used one month after first opening of the tube. Protect from freezing.
