Description
Torcox is indicated for the symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA), Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Ankylosing spondylitis, and the pain and signs of inflammation associated with acute gouty arthritis. It also provides short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery. Torcox is a selective COX-2 inhibitor and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to reduce pain and inflammation.

Pharmacology
- Potent COX-2 specific inhibitor
- Decreases pain, inflammation, and fever
Dosage instructions
- 30 mg once daily for Osteoarthritis
- 90 mg once daily for Rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis
- 120 mg once daily for Acute gouty arthritis
- 90 mg once daily for Postoperative dental surgery pain, limited to a maximum of 3 days
Interaction with medications
- Increase in prothrombin time when used with oral anticoagulants
- Reduction in the effect of diuretics and antihypertensive drugs when used with NSAIDs
- Concomitant use with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid for cardiovascular prophylaxis
- Potential increase in nephrotoxic effect when coadministered with ciclosporin or tacrolimus
- Decrease in lithium renal excretion when used with Lithium
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- History of allergic reactions to acetylsalicylic acid or NSAIDs
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Estimated renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, or cerebrovascular disease

Precautions
- Caution in elderly patients and those with prior history of gastrointestinal disease

- Exercise caution in patients with cardiac failure, hypertension, or edema
- Regular monitoring of liver function
- Discontinue at first appearance of hypersensitivity reaction
Pregnancy and lactation
Not recommended in women attempting to conceive; not excreted in human milk but not recommended for breastfeeding mothers
Overdose effects
Single doses up to 500 mg and multiple doses up to 150 mg/day for 21 days did not result in significant toxicity
