Indications
- Symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Symptomatic relief of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Symptomatic relief of Ankylosing spondylitis
- Symptomatic relief of acute gouty arthritis
- Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery
Pharmacology
- Potent COX-2 specific inhibitor
- Inhibition of COX-2 decreases pain, inflammation, and fever
- Decreased potential for gastrointestinal (Gl) toxicity
- No inhibition of COX-1 at recommended doses
Dosage & Administration
- Adults and adolescents over 16 years
- Recommended doses for different conditions such as Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and postoperative dental surgery pain
- Consideration of cardiovascular risks and lowest effective daily dose
Interaction
- Interaction with oral anticoagulants like warfarin
- Interaction with diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and Angiotensin II Antagonists
- Concomitant use with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid
- Potential interaction with ciclosporin, tacrolimus, and lithium
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- History of allergic-type reactions to acetylsalicylic acid or NSAIDs
- Pregnancy, lactation, severe hepatic dysfunction, and estimated renal creatinine clearance below threshold
- Inflammatory bowel disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases
