Indications
- Edema management of cardiac, renal, and hepatic origin
- Management of hypertension
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of Na+/K+/2CI- carrier system
- Decrease in reabsorption of sodium and chloride
- Increase in delivery of tubular fluid and electrolytes
- Promotion of sodium reabsorption at the distal tubules
- Increase in urinary excretion of sodium, chloride, and water
- Diuretic actions for antihypertensive effects
Dosage & Administration
- Initial oral doses for congestive heart failure, chronic renal failure, hepatic cirrhosis, and hypertension
- Titration of dose for inadequate diuretic response
Interaction
- Increased risk of severe hypokalaemia with certain medications
- Increased risk of lithium toxicity
- Potential ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity with specific medications
- Increased risk of toxicity with digoxin
- Reduced diuretic effect with NSAIDs
- Increased risk of hypotension with antihypertensives

- Hypersensitivity to torasemide and sulfonylureas
