Indications
- Treatment of acute otitis media caused by specific microorganisms
- Treatment of pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by specific microorganisms

Pharmacology
- Oral 3rd generation cephalosporin
- Stable to beta lactamases
- Activity against Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria
- Prodrug with active metabolite Cefpodoxime
- Excretion of Cefpodoxime in the urine
- Indicated for patients infected with susceptible strains of microorganisms
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for adults and adolescents
- Dosage for infants and pediatric patients
- Dosing intervals for patients with severe renal impairment
- No dose adjustment necessary for patients with liver cirrhosis
Interaction
- Interaction with antacids and H 2 blockers
- Interaction with probenecid
- Close monitoring of renal function when administered with nephrotoxic drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporins

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not teratogenic or embryocidal in animal trial
- No adequate and well-controlled study in pregnant women
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Excretion in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Reduction of total daily dose in patients with reduced urinary output
- Caution in patients receiving concurrent treatment with potent diuretics
- Risk of overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
- Prolonged use may require repeated evaluation
