Indications

  • Reduces blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes Mellitus in adults who do not respond adequately to diet, exercise, and weight loss alone

Pharmacology

  • Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
  • Decreases hepatic glucose output

Dosage & Administration

  • Initial dose: 40 to 80 mg daily
  • Maximum dose: 320 mg daily
  • For children, Gliclazide is contraindicated
  • Recommended daily dose for modified release preparation: 60 to 120 mg in a single intake at breakfast time

  • May interact with oral antidiabetics, antibiotics, medicines for high blood pressure, antifungal medicines, antidepressants, painkillers, alcohol, and more
