Indications

  • Treatment of steroid responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea and anterior segment of the globe

Pharmacology

  • Corticosteroid with excellent anti-inflammatory action
  • Induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins
  • Control of biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation

Dosage & Administration

  • Shake the bottle before use
  • 1 to 2 drops instilled into the conjunctival sac two to four times daily
  • Dosage may be increased during initial 24-48 hours
  • Safety and effectiveness not demonstrated in children under 2 years of age

Interaction

  • Specific drug interaction studies not conducted

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients with certain eye infections and hypersensitivity to constituents of the medication

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category B3
  • Should be used during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
  • Not known whether ophthalmic use of corticosteroids could result in sufficient systemic absorption to produce detectable quantities in breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Great caution required in patients with history of Herpes simplex keratitis
  • Should not be used for more than 10 days except under strict supervision with regular checks for intraocular pressure
  • May mask, activate or aggravate an infection of the eye

Storage Conditions

  • Store in a dry place away from light
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Prevent contamination of the dropper tip and suspension
  • Do not use after 4 weeks of first opening
