Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Peripherally acting analgesic
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Excretion in urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use only
- Injection: Administer over no less than 15 seconds
- IM administration should be given slowly and deeply into the muscle
- Eye Drops: Adults: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin: Increases side effects
- Anti-coagulants: Enhances anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blocker: Reduces the anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors: Increases risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate: Enhances the toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings

- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding or asthma and liver dysfunction
- Eye Drops: Discontinue use if evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown, avoid while wearing contact lenses
